Summer Fellow in Data Science
Location: Remote (USA)
Duration: 12 weeks
Compensation: $12,000k - $20,000k, depending on experience
We are currently seeking a passionate and highly skilled summer student in Data Science to contribute to advancing research in ethical AI methodology. This role offers the opportunity to work on a project with our team of researchers developing cutting-edge machine learning methodologies to make a positive difference in the world.
Responsibilities:
-Data Science Research: Work with PhD staff to develop a project to research in data science that focuses on methods that are directly relevant to illuminating the black box of machine learning. Develop new approaches and tools to address common machine learning or statistical challenges including uncertainty quantification, interpretability, computational scalability or other big data challenges. If time permits, apply this methodology to a dataset that matters to improvement of the world. Communication of these results is key in an accessible format to the public.
-Outreach Participation: Assist in community building activities including but not limited to our live streams, Summer Science series, volunteer programs, coloring pages, AI horror podcast, etc.

Qualifications:
- participation in PhD or undergraduate program in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong foundation in statistical methods, machine learning, and data analysis techniques.
- Proven experience in working with large, complex datasets, including data cleaning, transformation, and exploratory analysis.
- Familiarity with common programming languages for data analysis (Python, R, SQL) and tools (e.g., Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Jupyter).
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., R-shiny, Python Dash, Matplotlib) to communicate findings effectively.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with an ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences.
- A collaborative and solution-oriented mindset, with a passion for working in a mission-driven environment.
